Five locations in Onomichi city will present works by Yukinori Yanagi, Noriyuki Haraguchi, Miyako Ishiuchi and Motoi Yamamoto: At Onomichi warehouse No.3 near the Onomichi Station, Yukinori Yanagi’s “God-zilla,” a large-scale installation currently exhibited at YOKOHAMA TRIENNALE 2017, will be on view for the rst time in this city. Also, an artwork by Noriyuki Haraguchi, “F8-E Crusader,” originally created for the “CROSSROAD 1” exhibition in 2014, will be shown in this venue.
ART BASE MOMOSHIMA - a closed down junior high school, presently serves as an art center, located in Momoshima, an island located between historical Onomichi Channel and Tomonoura region-, will exhibit “Frida” series by Miyako Ishiuchi.
On the occasion of this “CROSSROAD 2” exhibition,ART BASE MOMOSHIMA will open a new gallery and accommodation facility, Goemon-bath House “Otsu 1731.” This art house, as we call it, is a renovated old vacant house on the island. A new installation by Noriyuki Haraguchi will be shown in its storehouse, kura. A video documentation of construction/renovation process of the house will also be on view. In the main building of the house, Motoi Yamamoto, an artist from Onomichi, will show an installation work of salt. This installation is followed by a performance titled “Return to the Sea,” scheduled at the end of the exhibition period, in which the artist will return the work to the sea with the help of viewers. Back on the mainland, a former Yagi Stationary Store, located in a Onomichi shopping district and out of business for ten years, will open as “CROSSROAD 2” Information Center. Works by emerging artists will be on view.
As ARTBASE MOMOSHIMA’s 5th anniversary special event, a lm screening of “The Legacy of Frida Kahlo” and talk with the director, Tadanori Kotani and the artist, Miyako Ishiuchi, will take place at Cinema Onomichi on November 5th (Sun)
